At the end of 2018, Community Care Partnership of Maine (CCPM), an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in which Greater Portland Health is a member, released the total savings achieved with its participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). In 2017, its second year participating in the program, CCPM and its 12 member health care organizations achieved a total savings of $8.1 million for the Medicare program, $4.1 million of which was returned to CCPM and its member organizations.

CCPM is an ACO comprised of federally qualified health centers and critical access and community hospitals throughout Maine. It is one of 472 ACOs nationwide participating in the Medicare Shared Savings Program, a voluntary program that encourages participants to provide coordinated, high-quality care to Medicare patients while reducing unnecessary health care costs. Participants in the Shared Savings Program are required to meet certain quality measures, and they then receive a portion of the total savings from their health care cost reduction efforts.
